Launch of our rural campaign and Mayoral briefings

As Cumbria moves towards electing its first Mayor in 2027, we have launched a rural campaign to ensure rural needs are at the forefront of Mayoral policy.

We have drawn upon what communities are telling us, including responses to our Rural Issues Survey, along with wider evidence to produce briefings for Mayoral candidates on three core challenges facing rural communities: transport, housing, and rural poverty. Our briefings highlight the challenges, but also the opportunities which can come from addressing these issues for both the county’s growth and the long-term prosperity of its communities. In each, we put forward a series of policy asks to Mayoral candidates and call for these to be adopted into their manifestos.

We believe it is vital that our rural communities are given a voice at all levels of democracy. Therefore, as part of our campaign launch, we have also produced a video which features first-hand accounts from rural residents across Cumbria about how these issues affect their daily lives.

ACT is calling on candidates to think rural from the outset so that communities in Cumbria can access the services and opportunities they need to thrive, stay healthy, and contribute to the county’s long-term prosperity.

To support our campaign, please share our briefings and our campaign video among your networks.
